What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting may offer the therapeutic benefit of clients seeking relief in any form of psychological distress, so in other words, techniques like this are complementary to a regular practice schedule. The method may be limited to a few session or advance itself as a regular method in session. It is likely most known for relief of symptoms relating to PTSD, anxiety and phobias.

The method's history includes the EMDR technique and there are many studies and discussions relating to EMDR online. EMDR allowed for a new discovery in brain health, that when under the conditioning of bi-lateral stimulus, the brain somehow "resets" itself. This, according to EMDR literature, allows for a relief of symptoms such as intrusive or 'running' thoughts. In a therapy session, with Brainspotting, the sounds provide the bi-lateral stimulus rather than a visual movement, which is the practice in EMDR. During the calming of the sounds, the therapist then guides the client toward a "spot" which is used as a starting point to induce a journey with the client's control over the process of experiencing a deeper connection to the main topic, and sharing this experience in whatever communication the client wishes to offer (above summary referenced from video of founder).
As it's described by this therapist, in his own receiving of the experience, it's as if "we go on a sailing trip on the waves of my mind," and while "in this releasing experience, I get to describe everything I'm seeing in a new supportive experience, having the witness of my therapist shipmate, allowing the unwinding of tensions held in mind/body." In other words, the technique "induced a sense of stillness that I'd get when gazing in to a sunset or beautiful landscape, and to share my trauma, anxiety etc. from this space, helped deepen, expand, and relieve myself from prior reactions of stressful topics."
